Chess clubs across the river in Barreiro 6

Barreiro, across the Tagus from Lisbon, keeps its chess in the sections of football and neighbourhood clubs. FC Barreirense, whose team has reached the podium of the national rapid team championship, GD Ferroviários on Avenida dos Sapadores, GDR Verderena and Santoantoniense FC in Santo António da Charneca each take a turn hosting a stage of the free municipal tournament circuit at their own premises, on Sunday afternoons from winter to early summer.

GD Casquilhos, Verderena and Santoantoniense also host afternoon tournaments for the youngest age groups, while the philharmonic society in Lavradio has become a regular tournament hall for circuit stages, district youth championships, a classical tournament and rated rapid events.
