About this list
Rated tournaments around Lisbon count towards the players' Elo, and several of them ask for a federation licence. The Lisbon association's district championships are played in classical, semi-rapid and rapid chess, with sections for young players and veterans, along with a super cup. In Oeiras, a shopping centre has hosted a long-running series of Sunday morning tournaments for federated players, with limited places and a youth section.
Chess days pair a rated open with a day of free play: the old gunpowder factory in Barcarena and the municipal museum of Loures hold a semi-rapid afternoon tournament beside a giant board and free practice for visitors, and Ericeira has held one in a park in summer. A pastry maker in Malveira has hosted a Saturday-afternoon semi-rapid open to federated and unaffiliated players alike, and Seixal marks the anniversary of the municipality each November with a free rated open.
